Grey Dress - Phase 1

Okay so I've went a little bit customization mad! So be prepared to see more coming up!
For now though I am going to show you the first phase of what I did to customize a very plain boring grey dress, there is 2 phases here just so I didn't bombard you guys with too much information!

PHASE 1

So this was my dress, it is a maxi dress just so you are all aware.
Step 1: Equipment
- Sewing Machine (for phase 2)
- Tailors Chalk
- Fabric Scissors
-Thread of chosen colour (phase 2)
- A ruler of some kind
- Sewing Machine equipment

Step 2: Shortening
- So I wanted to make the length of the dress shorter so I marked on the fabric where I wanted to cut it with my tailors chalk
- Then I used my ruler item to put a line across for me to follow when I cut it
- Using fabric scissors cut along the line.

You should be left with a piece like this (below) DO NOT put in the bin because if you wish to continue onto Phase 2 you will need it! So put it to one side for later.

 Step 3: Fringing
- At the bottom of the dress I wanted to make fringing
- Pin the front and back of the dress together at the bottom to keep it even

- Again choose where you want the fringing to go to and make another line with the tailors chalk and your ruler item
- Start cutting
TOP TIP - When fringing don't worry too much about making the fringes completely even in thickness, its meant to look raw!

- Continue cutting until completed all the way along

PHASE 1 COMPLETE!

If you wish to leave your dress like this then you have no need to look at Phase 2 (which will be uploaded tomorrow). However, if you want to customize your dress/outfit even more then keep your eyes out for Phase 2!

Customization!

As I am a fashion student I love to make items of clothing unique, therefore I tend to customize my clothes - after you do it once, it can become quite addictive!
So yesterday I customized a playsuit that I bought 2 days ago... Here is a step by step guide to how I did it!

Okay, so here was my playsuit before I done anything to it. The first thing you've got to decide is what you want to do to it. I opted for tie-dye!

Step 1: Gather everything you need
 - Milton (a sterilizing fluid or type of bleach)
- Gloves
- Elastic Bands
- An empty spray bottle

Step 2: Pour the Milton into the spray bottle

 Step 3: Tie you garment
- Use elastic bands to make spots of resistance to the Milton (like above)

Step 4: Put on your gloves
- Always wear gloves to prevent irritation from Milton (and also if you get it on your skin it really stinks!)
TOP TIP - Put an elastic band around your wrist on top of the gloves to stop them from slipping off or any Milton/Dye/ect. getting to your hands

 Step 5: Spray your garment
- Now this is the fun bit!
- Spray your garment wherever you want to create an effect!
- Remember to spray around the elastic bands to get the tie-dyed effect
TOP TIP - You never know what colour your Milton will make your fabric so be prepared for whatever turns out

Step 6: Drying
- Hang your garment with ALL ELASTIC BANDS IN TACT on a clothes horse
- Always put newspaper underneath to catch the drips
- Leave over night
TOP TIP - Rinse your garment before putting it on the clothes dryer

Step 7: Completion
- Once dry remove all the elastic bands and look at your creation!

Front

Back

And there you have it! One tie-dyed playsuit!
There will be more customized items coming soon!
Let me know what you think:)

lovedundee_challenge

So being an avid instagram-er I was pleased to see my friend Nicole putting a post up on our facebook page Jekyll and Hyde about a "lovedundee" challenge. So basically the group lovedundee want everyone in Dundee to put up some photos of Dundee to show the world that our city actually is beautiful and unique. (There are prizes too!)
Now, everyone who lives in Dundee and uses Instagram now's the time to get involved! All you have to do is take some photos of places in Dundee, it doesn't matter where and tag lovedundee like this: #lovedundee_challenge
The deadline for all the photos is on Sunday 12th August and the winners are announced on Monday 13th August - Good luck!
As for all you folk out there that are not from Dundee, here's a couple of my personal photos just to give you an idea of my city.

So there you have it. Although, I now have realized that I haven't actually taken many photos of the city itself, more the countryside areas within it.. nevermind:)
Let me know what you think guys! Oh, and please like my facebook page Jekyll and Hyde
Peace out!

Marilyn Monroe - probably one of the most beautiful women to ever be in the public eye. I chose this photograph to begin my post for a reason: Marilyn was always this beautiful, curvaceous, blonde bombshell! And she was proud of it!...

As a young woman of 5ft and a size 12, I continuously feel the pressures of the modern world to be slimmer, to lose that 5 pounds, to wear heals all the time in order to look taller. And I personally don't understand why? Especially when you look at Marilyn, I mean she had a body that everyone envied, even today it is still envied by millions of women.

However, when you look at the clothing that the fashion industry is producing, it does not fit this figure. Now I understand that every woman is different and that some people are naturally slim. But don't you think that there should be clothing that suits all shapes and sizes? On entering my course in Fashion and Textile Design I had a vision of creating clothing that flatters women who are not a size 0. Also, being a great fashion lover I used to watch America's Next Top Model all the time, but even in that show you see that there is a specific type of model they are looking for. Tall, thin and, more often than not, pretty much shapeless. This makes me lose hope in what I wanted to accomplish all those months ago when I applied for my course.

Perhaps I am just moaning, but what do you think?

stripy jacket

So I thought i would share with you guys some photos of me and my new favourite jacket! I had had my eye on a jacket like this for a while but couldn't find the right one, until a few weeks ago when I found this...

I've worn it with dresses, shorts, skirts. For nights out, going visiting or just as a casual jacket, really I'm just in love <3
You can have a closer look here.

look into my eyes

So, as part of my new theme going on here I intend to share with you my thoughts... This is a post I have been wanting to put up for a while but it never fitted in before when my blog was based on fashion. So, here we go...

Eyes. Beautiful things don't you think? Beautiful, and very clever. By detecting light and converting them into electro-chemical pulses they enable us to see the beautiful wonders of our world. Personally, I love eyes. I think that past all the biology they are just amazing. By looking into a persons eyes you can tell almost exactly how they are feeling. And apart from that, I just think they are beautiful...

This is a photo of one of my eyes

And also a drawing of my eye

I hope you like this post on my love of eyes. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think:) By the way, the links to where I found these photos are underneath them, they just don't show up because of my background colour.

A change..

My dearest readers (if I have any?), I am writing to inform you of a little change I will be making to my blog. Although, up until now I have mostly been a fashion blogger, I feel the need to find a place where I can share all of my thoughts on any subject. Therefore, I have decided that I could share them with you guys. Most of my thoughts do actually revolve around fashion however, I would like to share with you my thoughts on anything!
Hope you enjoy listening (well reading) what I intend to share with you.
Love,
Jennifer
